One of the first steps in the process of custom building a new home is coming up with the design. It is also the time when you have the most input into the end result of the project, as you work with a designer to capture all of the elements you have been dreaming about along the way.

Rather than placing the burden of this critical step on your shoulders, we recommend bringing in a third-party designer to ensure a home that perfectly fits your needs. We will also be assured that, from the structural standpoint, the home will meet and exceed the building codes.

You’ll find that the best way to come into the process ready to work in tandem with your designer is to complete ta little “homework” first. once you have made the decsion to build a new custom home, it is extremely helpful to start a binder or scrapbook to collect items that will help your designer to understand what you are envisioning.

The next time you are at your favorite bookstore, purchase a few home design magazines and clip out any design elements or home elevations that capture your imagination.

It is also productive to keep a pad of paper handy to jot down ideas that come to you as you think about the features or room designs you want in your home.
